Message: Hello,

Just reading your very interesting web site pages. I was and still am a very big fan of James Dean. I have seen his movies numerous times and was at the intersection of Hwy 46 and 41 on the 50th anniversary of his death. I have also been to the town of Mendicino, CA where scenes of East Of Eden were filmed. To me, there is a never ending fascination about him that will always stay with me.

Message: I never had time to look at all this till now; it made an impact I would have not imagined on me. I spent time in our junk yard in winston salem playing in the cars and I knew that back then in the 50's there was a death every night on the news. James Dean's death was just one of them really and not so unusual to any one back then. People walked out into the traffic back then and were run down and killed. Now when we look at James we see him standing out amoung thousands of hiways death back then; so we might conclude that his fame had nothing what so ever to do with his death; but who will believe that. If you live by the sword or fire you die by the sword or fire; and so it is also with the car. He lived by the car you see. Why did he want two careers; he simply loved fame and fortune and excitement and thrills but maybe also danger which is bad. If he and Turnipseed were doing 55 mph it adds to 110 and then thrown the fact that Turnipseed's car was twice as massive. So Dean got more than 110 mph then; can you imagine that! It makes me cry.

Message: For James...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Message: James died 4 years before i was born i liked him from quite a young age, and still like him today, thoughts run through my mind some days telling myself Mr Dean had still been alive today he would have gone on and been an actor in his late years if he had not sadly died, he had the most wonderful smile i have ever seen in my life when he smiled his eyes just lit up, i am into photography and boy would he have made a great model, his face his eyes and that smile till this day i have never seen a smile like it, he lived life to the full and good on him, i just read that his Dad died at 88 the day he lost his son must of been an exceedingly sad one, Your films and the memory of you will live on, thank you for the joy you give me in watching your films and reading about you x x

Message: Thanks for sharing the website with adoring fans alike here. All I could think of after viewing this website, with linked websites to this one, was that it is unfortunate that anyone meets an early demise. James Dean was obviously a man of many talents and not just a handsome face.

I think what is most inspiring about his life reviewed is that he took a dream of his own, a goal and turned it around to carve out a promising future. Unfortunately cut short..too short that it is heartbreaking in general. I have read many books devoted to Dean's story and no matter who, what, when, or why this crash happened is overwhelming but, honoring him for his achievements is the beauty of it all. Like many that lose someone dear too soon here, he is alive and well in spirit, mind and hearts everywhere. Lastly, I read every now and then that some people call it a morbid curiousity to honor him or those alike such as Monroe, Mansfield,Presley,etc..one of a kind talents..it's not disturbing to pay homage to anyone. What it does represent is that it's an "appreciation" for what Dean gave us while he was still here. There will never be another like him and for those that truly knew Dean.."I'd wish him back everyday."

Message: I am sixty one, I was seven in 1955. It did not register in me that a famous actor had died; now that I have time to look at all the report it is just devestating to me. I enjoyed his movies and tv so much I can not express it. I spent time in the junk yards getting old radios to learn from and seeing smashed cars was an interesting experience to me; I heard the reports every evening of terrible accidents in 1955. When I saw James wreck and the death report I cried.

I was 15 years old, when he was killed, but I don't ever think I could forget this man. Why Doesn't TCM show to the younger generation, more of the films he starred in? It would let us kids of the 1950's see what a real movie star was,and as a human being ,show LOVE he had for all mankind. Thanks for letting me express my feelings toward James B. Dean.

Message: Beath's book about the death of James Dean motivated me to write a biography about Canada's most decorated war hero, William Barker. This flying ace had died on Wednesday, March 12th, 1930 in a plane crash while performing a flying display for a military audience. His mythic reputation from the First World War resulted in new myths about how and why he died. The most enduring and unlikely was that Barker deliberately committed suicide. I admire Beath's diligence in separating myths from realities, and his work served as a template for my own.
